Backpacking by Mammoth day 1

Day 1~ Sept 7th

We started out at Silver lake just outside of the small resort town June lake. Any one going to stay at the camp ground at silver lake might I suggest site # 031.
There is a wonderful view of Alger Creek. Clint was all bummed that he had not gotten an air mattress that he ordered so he went to Target and got a cheap Coleman one. Turns out it blew up like a balloon and wouldn't lay flat.
We took off to Mammoth to get our permit at the welcome center and had to wait in a line of about 10 people trying to get permits. After we left there we were all hungry so we started looking for a place to eat. we found a place called Breakfast Club. The food was great Cortney, Jason and I had a wonderful breakfast. Clint decided he had M.R.E. food for that morning so he sat in the parking lot and ate. As we were getting ready to leave I remember him saying he wished we stopped at a KFC so he could get some butter packets to fry the fish. This restaurant just happen to have butter packets on the table. As we were driving to the trail head we drove thru Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. I didn't realize it was as big as it was. When we got to the trail head Cortney met some guys from Oakdale that were also headed to Ediza Lake.

The hike to Olaine Lake was easy. It was almost all down hill. now the hike from Olaine Lake to Shadow Lake thats a different story.

The worst part for me wasnt even the big steps it was the itty bitty one that my feet dont fit on. When we got to Shadow Lake we were almost all out of water so we needed to pump more. When we got the pumps out I gave the camera to Cortney and this is what she took.

We took off From Shadow thinking it would be about and made the climb to Ediza Lake. The View at Ediza was beautiful.
My first impression of Ediza was pure amazement.

Cortney and I set up camp and i think were the first ones with our tent up. Jason and Clint soon followed. Jason and Clint Grabbed fishing poles and set off to find the fish.
I was hungry so we boiled water and had beef stroganoff . By the time we finished dinner the boys came back. Jason had two bites and landed one.

Relay For Life

So even thought Katie had Cora on Monday we still made an appearance at Escalon's Relay for Life. It was an exciting day that helped raise close to $67,000 dollars for American Cancer Society. I tried to be there as much as I could but it was hard. here are a few if the pictures I snapped.

Steve donated almost 16 inches of hair for locks of love.
